Madayn Case Study

Combined effluent treatment plant to treat industrial effluent

The Client: Madayn, Sultanate of Oman
The Engineer: Arabtech Jardaneh International, Sultanate of Oman

Problem

The client has requested an effective solution for treating the wastewater generated by industries within the Rusayl Industrial Estate – Package 2A. The goal is to create a “Common Wastewater Treatment Plant” with a capacity of 4800 M3/Day to treat wastewater from various industries via the wastewater network. The treated effluent will then be disposed of for irrigation purposes.

Solution

Initially, EES conducted a treatability study by collecting wastewater samples and analyzing them to determine the optimal raw water parameters for the best treatment solution.

Due to the high concentration of grit, particulate matter, and FOG in the wastewater, we have implemented state-of-the-art technology for primary treatment. This includes a vertical screen and a pre-treatment unit that are combined to achieve a high degree of treatment.

We have implemented a conventional activated sludge process treatment with diffused aeration and an internal recirculation system to address the fluctuating and high concentration of BOD & COD. Additionally, a Multimedia Filtration System has been incorporated as part of the tertiary treatment system to obtain a polished Treated Effluent that meets the irrigation discharge standards.

Waste Water Treatment

To remove odorous gases from the process and premises, we have installed a Bio trickling filter type Odour Control System that can eliminate more than 99.5% of such gases.

For safe dewatering of the sludge, we have provided an energy-efficient sludge dewatering system (Belt Press) that consumes less polymer.

The Complete Treatment Plant is fully automated and equipped with necessary control and monitoring instrumentation. This allows for very minimal human intervention and enables remote monitoring as well.

Conclusion

The commissioning of the treatment plant was a success, meeting discharge parameters well within the proposed limits, affirming its efficiency and environmental responsibility.
